Prince Harry is said to have offered to become King in Prince William’s place after he said that he didn’t want to inherit the important role.

William, 39, has had his future laid out before him since birth but as a child he reportedly expressed concerns over his future.

With this in mind, it’s believed the late Princess Diana thought her youngest son Harry, 37, would make a better monarch. After overhearing his brother say he didn’t want to be King, in response, Harry reportedly retorted: “If you don’t want the job I’ll have it.” According to royal expert Robert Jobson, this led to Diana privately calling Harry GKH - or Good King Harry.

Robert revealed on Channel 5’s William & Harry: Princes At War?: “She used to refer to Harry as GKH (Good King Harry) because she thought he’d probably be better equipped for the role in the future than William.” TV broadcaster Jeremy Paxman backed Robert’s claims, and recalled the time Diana said something similar to him. “We talked about our children and she said William often told her that he didn’t really want to be king, and then Harry would say, ‘If you don’t want the job I’ll have it',” he said, recalling one of their lunch meetings.
