Prince Harry is paying tribute to one of his favourite childhood heroes as the beloved train Thomas the Tank Engine is turning 75.

The 35-year-old royal recorded a sweet message for a new royal special that is due to air next week. Thomas holds a special place in Prince Harry’s heart as he attended his first day of nursery school carrying his Thomas book bag.

Reverend Wilbert Awdry created the iconic character when making up bedtime stories for his son, Christopher. Thomas and Friends: The Royal Engine follows Sir Topham Hatt as he sets off to Buckingham Palace to receive an honour.
