Prince Grammy Salute Spikes Sales for the Purple One

The CBS concert special Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince pumped up sales for the legend’s catalog of songs, as well as those of some of his famed collaborators.

The show was taped in January and aired on April 21, the four-year anniversary of Prince's death. In total, Prince’s catalog of songs, along with those tunes performed on the show that were made famous by others, collected an 815% sales gain on April 21 in the U.S.

according to initial sales reports to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. In total, the songs sold just over 10,000 downloads -- up from 1,000 on April 20.

Prince’s biggest-selling songs on Sunday were “Purple Rain,” “Let’s Go Crazy,” “Little Red Corvette,” “I Would Die 4 U” and “Kiss.” On the show, “Purple” was performed
