A primary school in Bury has been forced to close today as police deal with a 'serious incident' at a park nearby. Parents and children have been turned away from St Thomas’s C.E.
Primary School on Pimhole Road on the first day of term due to the incident in Openshaw Park. Police have closed off all entrances to the park, and emergency services are stationed on the road near to the primary school.
Forensic officers have been pictured at the scene and a white screen has been put in place in an area behind the cordon. The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police.
Councillor for Redvales Tamoor Tariq said in a tweet this morning that police and council officials were 'working closely' to deal with the incident.
