In a shocking new study, researchers found that pollution levels inside homes were not only higher but also more unpredictable than outdoor air quality, which could even have a damaging effect on our brains.
A team of scientists from the University of Birmingham used "low cost" sensors to measure pollutants in the air in three homes over two weeks and discovered alarming levels of indoor pollution.
Shockingly, air inside one house exceeded World Health Organisation safety guidelines on nine days throughout the study. The sensors couldn't tell the researchers exactly where the pollution was coming from, but the study found that household location, ventilation, and occupancy patterns had a huge effect on the results.
