The top cop in Scotland could be hauled into the dock over the force's response to a young mum who lay dying in her car for three days.

The Crown Office has launched formal proceedings against Police Scotland over the M9 accident that caused the deaths of John Yuill, 28, and his partner Lamara Bell, 25.

The couple were returning to Falkirk from a camping trip when John’s Renault Clio came off the motorway and crashed down an embankment into trees, reports the Daily Record.

Despite a call being made to police by a member of the public who spotted the car, it took officers three days to respond to the accident near Stirling in July 2015.
