Police Scotland will not take further action against JK Rowling after the force received complaints over her blistering attack on Scotland's new hate crime laws.

The national constabulary confirmed today it had received complaints about the messages shared by the Harry Potter author with her 14 million followers - but they were "not assessed to be criminal".

The multi-millionaire author - a frequent critic of the Scottish Government's stance on transgender rights - warned on Monday the legislation on hate crime was "wide open to abuse".

She shared pictures of transgender rapist Isla Bryson and trans butcher Andrew Miller, also known as Amy George, who abducted and sexually assaulted a schoolgirl. She also mentioned activist Munroe Bergdof, broadcaster India Willoughby and Edinburgh Rape Crisis Centre's Mridul Wadwha.Rowling said all the people mentioned "aren't women at all, but men, every last one of them.”She added: “I'm currently out of the country, but if what I've written here qualifies as an offence under the terms of the new act, I look forward to being arrested when I return to the birthplace of the Scottish Enlightenment."She ended her tweet with "#ArrestMe".Responding to the news she would not face action from the police, Rowling said: "I hope every woman in Scotland who wishes to speak up for the reality and importance of biological sex will be reassured by this announcement, and I trust that all women - irrespective of profile or financial means - will be treated equally under the law."A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We have received complaints in relation to the social media post."The comments are not assessed to be criminal and no further action will be taken."To sign up to the Daily Record Politics
