A fire that broke out in a building above Burger King in Manchester city centre is not believed to have been started deliberately, police have said.

The blaze broke out a number of floors up from the fast-food restaurant in Piccadilly Gardens shortly after 11am today. Firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the scene and a cordon was put in place.

Pictures showed smoke billowing from a window near the top of the building. A ladder and hoses were used to extinguish the flames.
