Police have been seen guarding car parks and beach entrances as sunseekers enjoy the summer heatwave. Officers have been pictured at Formby in Merseyside after being enlisted to help deal with parking problems and possible anti-social behaviour.

The beach is popular with visitors from across the North West and officers have been deployed to assist, as thousands of families are expected to make the most of the hot weather, the Liverpool Echo reports.

Temperatures are expected to reach 30°C over the coming days. Visitors to the coast are also being warned about new laws which have been recently imposed by councillors.

Disposable BBQs and golf have been banned after the measures were approved during a council meeting this week.
