Police blocked off a road and specialist Army explosive device units were called out after an old firework was discovered in the basement of a takeaway in Eccles.
The incident sparked a large emergency services response on Sunday afternoon (July 3). New owners of the takeaway had discovered the unusual object in their basement and called the police over concerns.
A large cordon was put in place on Church Street, in Eccles town centre, for the safety of the public, police have said. Multiple police vehicles were at the scene, as well as incident response units from the North West Ambulance Service.
Specialist officers from the British Army Ordnance Disposal Unit assessed the firework at the scene, where it was safely removed and disposed of shortly afterwards.
