Electric scooters may look like a part of a greener future, yet they are classified as vehicles by the Department for Transport and so, without an MoT or registration plate or signals like cars are supposed to have, they cannot be ridden legally on UK roads.
The only exceptions are trial areas such as in Salford Quays and Rochdale, and only then in designated locations on machines hired out by Lime.
Last week a team of 15 officers from Greater Manchester Police launched a day of action in the city centre, seizing 23 e-scooters.
