Plot of land associated with Rob Roy to be sold at auction

A plot of land west of Lochearnhead just outside Perthshire near the village where legendary Scottish outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor was laid to rest is scheduled to be auctioned off next week.The 26-acre site beside Loch Voil is just a short distance away from Balquhidder where the 18th century folk hero is buried in the grounds of the local parish church.Future Property Auctions is aiming to sell the site it is calling ‘Rob Roy Landing’ on its website during a timed online auction being held next Thursday (June 16) with the opening bid set at £111,000.Their website says of the site: “The lochs, river and glens around Balquhidder are steeped in history.

The village attracts many visitors from around the world who come to see the final resting place of Rob Roy.“There are many scenic walking routes, such as the Rob Roy walking trail, Kirkton Pass and Balquhidder Glen.”Their website goes on to say the site comes with fishing rights but should any prospective buyer hope to build permanent structures on the land they should make enquiries with the local council first.Their description of the site continues: “This area of Scotland provides a wide range of recreational activities including hill-walking, climbing, cycling and water sports which can be found on Loch Earn, together with Loch Tay and Venacher.“For those who enjoy outdoor sports there is a good range of shooting and stalking locally, whilst fishing is available on the nearby River Earn, River Tay and River Teith.“In addition to the many local sports clubs and golf courses, the world-renowned Gleneagles golf and leisure facilities are a short drive away.”Rob Roy MacGregor was buried in Balquhidder Parish Church in 1734.
