The environmental impact of discarding plastic waste has come to the fore again after a 27-year-old crisp packet was found buried under a pile of leaves.
The packet was discovered by Salford councillor Lewis Nelson on Saturday (February 13) while he was out on a litter pick in Irlam, Greater Manchester.
The 10p crisp packet dated May 15, 1993, and an empty beer bottle, was found in a Morrisons plastic bag, reports the Manchester Evening News.
The councillor posted the discovery to Facebook in a bid to encourage other people not to litter. He said: “27 years ago, this crisp packet, in a Morrisons bag with an empty bottle of beer was thrown on Twelve Yards (Chat Moss) and has stayed there until this weekend half buried by years of leaves.
