A ‘suspicious’ man stopped by plain-clothes cops in Stockport was arrested after being found with a 'large kitchen knife and CS canister’.

The man was also found to be wanted on the Police National Computer for failing to appear at Stockport Magistrates for burglary and theft from a motor vehicle.

He has been remanded in custody ahead of appearing in court. Police say the man was one of eight people stopped and searched in the Shaw Heath area after ‘raising officers’ suspicions’ during a night operation. Inspector John Barber, from the central neighbourhood team, said: “Officers getting into the pockets of criminals is exactly what I want the town centre officers doing. “This is an example of highly effective use of stop search powers that keeps the public safe and the community a better place for all. “These are dangerous weapons that are now thankfully disposed of and possessing them will not be tolerated in Stockport."
