Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is a benefit many people have heard of, but may not be fully aware of the eligibility criteria and who the additional support is designed to help.

The latest figures from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) show that by the end of October 2020, a total of 279,067 Scots were claiming PIP - an increase of 12,957 since the beginning of April.

Which means during lockdown, more people used it as an opportunity to make a claim and start the application process - which can take up to 22 weeks from start to finish.

PIP is a benefit for people with a long-term illness, disability or mental health condition who need extra support in their daily life or getting around outside the home.
