Pioneering singer Emitt Rhodes dies aged 70

Pitchfork, adding the performer died in his sleep.Rhodes played drums in 1960s garage rock band the Palace Guard, with the 1967 song Falling Sugar appearing on the Nuggets compilation.He would later join psychedelic rock group the Merry-Go-Round aged 16, with the group releasing one self-titled album in 1967, before he embarked on a solo career in the 70s.The singer would go on to release five solo albums, with his final one Rainbow Ends, released in 2016, which featured contributions from The Bangles’ Susanna Hoffs, Aimee Mann and Jon Brion.The multi-instrumentalist became known for releasing many of his tunes from a home studio in his parents’ garage.
