Pink had a big wake-up call in the nick of time. In a candid new interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, the pop star recalled suffering a drug overdose at a rave just weeks before signing her first record deal.

It happened in November 1995 when she took “ecstasy, angel dust, crystal, all kinds of things” and “overdosed” at a Thanksgiving event.

The 44-year-old reflected: Wow. Related: Pink Postpones Tour Dates Due To Nasty Respiratory Infection When the host asked if she “almost died,” the songwriter confirmed such, adding that she was “off the rails” at the time and had previously “dropped out of high school.” A lot of this had to do with her complicated family life, she explained: Thankfully, she survived the scary incident and swore off hard drugs.

Just weeks later, she, as the lead singer of an R&B band called Choice, “signed to LaFace Records” as “token white girls on a Black label.” The girl group didn’t last, but this was the push the So What vocalist needed to launch her solo career.
