Arsenal survived a Europa League thriller against Benfica, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the hero as the Gunners progressed to the round of 16.
The Arsenal captain scored a late winner, his second goal of the game, as Mikel Arteta’s side came from behind to win 3-2 on the night and secure a 4-3 victory on aggregate.
After last week’s 1-1 draw in Rome, the two sides met in Athens and Arteta’s men picked up where they left off taking the lead through Aubameyang’s deft first-half finish after Bukayo Saka’s slide-rule pass.
Despite dominating the first half, Arsenal conceded an equaliser just two minutes before the interval as Diogo Goncalves curled home a fine free-kick after a rash challenge from Dani Ceballos.
