Police are currently investigating a phone scam that has resulted in an elderly individual in their 80s being swindled out of a significant amount of money.
Authorities are now urging the public to remain vigilant as the scam involves imposters posing as police officers. In recent weeks, detectives have received a surge in reports regarding this fraudulent scheme.
Shockingly, one victim was convinced to hand over a staggering £25,000. The fraudsters employ a tactic in which they pretend to be a police officer from a London-based force.
They inform the victim that someone has cloned their bank cards and is currently in custody. To resolve the issue, the bogus officer requests that the elderly person transfer funds to the police, promising reimbursement once the suspect is apprehended.
