Phillip Schofield has publicly apologised to his ex-wife Stephanie Lowe, after admitting to having an affair with a young male runner on This Morning whilst they were still married. The 61 year old came out as gay in early 2020 with the support of his wife of 27 years, Stephanie, with whom he shares two daughters.
A week after stepping down from presenting duties on This Morning "with immediate effect" Phillip made a lengthy statement to MailOnline, in which he admitted to having an "on-off" consensual relationship with a male runner during his time on This Morning, which he said was "not wise but not illegal".
In the statement, Phillip said that he was "painfully conscious" of lying about the affair to his employers at ITV, his colleagues and friends, agents, the public and "most importantly of all" his family.
He said: "I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife." Speaking about the affair, Phillip said that he met the man in question "when he was a teenager", and wanted help to get onto television.
