Phil Mickelson thrilled a vocal South Carolina crowd by hanging on to win the US PGA last night – and become the oldest Major winner in history.

The American, who turns 51 next month, held his nerve and his game in the blustery wind to shoot a closing 73 to win by two shots amid joyous scenes at Kiawah Island.
