'Phenomenal' Lanark United crowned league champions in style with eight-goal salvo
dailyrecord.co.ukLanark United were crowned West of Scotland Third Division champions in style as they routed Greenock 8-0 at Moor Park on Saturday.Jordan Fraser, Josh Payne and Callum Anderson had the Yowes 3-0 ahead at the interval on Saturday, with Anderson bagging his second of the game, while there were doubles from Graham Gracie and Kieran Brannan.Boss Daryl Meikle was thrilled with the effort from his side, and is pleased they got over the line with two games to spare, with them hosting Threave Rovers last night (Wednesday) and visiting Ardeer Thistle on Saturday.He said: “The boys have been magnificent for weeks now, but weren’t really going anywhere, and it’s great to get it over the line.“I think that’s 15 wins from the last 16 games, so it’s pretty phenomenal, they’ve been excellent week in, week out.“We were buzzing, the sun was shining, it was a good crowd, and it was the perfect day to wrap up the league, really.”Meikle says he’s stuck between going all out for wins in the remaining games, or giving game-time to fringe players.He said: “It’s a hard one.
We want to continue the run of form we’ve been on, we’ve won our last 11 games in a row, so you want to continue that.“At the same time you need to be fair with the squad that you’ve got, because there are boys who have sat patiently at the side and not played a lot of football, but haven’t moaned once, so they’re due an opportunity as well, and they’ll get that over the next couple of games.“But that’s not to say we’re not trying to get results.”Meikle has secured much of his current squad on new deals for their assault on the Second Division, and is pleased with the prospect of near-neighbours Lesmahagow and possibly Bellshill following them, with the likes of Larkhall
