Pharrell Williams and director Michel Gondry are shelving their upcoming movie musical Golden.
The 51-year-old music producer/fashion designer and the filmmaker worked together to bring the project to life, which featured Halle Bailey as one of the stars.
However, after filming wrapped in June 2024, and they were in post-production, they have decided not to move forward with the movie. Keep reading to find out more… The film was a coming-of-age musical set in the summer of 1977 Virginia Beach inspired by Atlantis Apartments, Pharrell‘s childhood neighborhood. “When all of us got into the editing room we collectively decided there wasn’t a path forward to tell the version of this story that we originally envisioned,” Pharrell and Michel shared in a joint statement, via Variety. “We appreciate all the hard work of the talented cast and crew.
While we’re disappointed we can’t deliver this film, we have incredible partners at Universal and will collaborate in a different capacity again soon.” After filming, Halle took to social media to give thanks to Pharrell and Michel for having her on the film, which was her first movie after giving birth to son Halo. “That’s a wrap,” she shared on Instagram. “Thank you to Michel Gondry, @universalpictures & @pharrell for including me in such a magical project.
