East Kilbride Thistle boss Aaron Connolly says a testing friendly with Petershill over the weekend provided plenty of positives for his side ahead of Saturday’s visit from Kello Rovers. The West of Scotland Third Division side were not in competitive action last week but used the free week to take on Premier side Petershill. It may have ended in a 5-2 defeat, with Simon Miller and Michael Blues on target for the Jags, but Connolly says it was a worthwhile exercise for his side as they aim to improve on their 11th place standing in the table when Kello visit. He said: “It was a really good workout and we gave a good account of ourselves, particularly in the second half.“We lost some sloppy goals in a 15-minute period when Petershill were on top of us, but given the gulf in leagues, quality and budget available, I was really pleased with what we did."I felt we should have scored another goal or two.

There were a lot more positives than negatives out of the game. It leaves us in a good place to go into the Kello game.“We just need to try and build on that to get points on the board.”The sides fought out a nine-goal thriller last time they met in October, with the Jags winning 5-4.Connolly added: “They are a decent side who started the season well, tailed off a wee bit, but are starting to come back again.

I think they have won three on the bounce so they will feel confident coming into it.“They’ve got good players and Andy Reid up top, who has won everything in Junior football and played at Beith for a number of years, so it’ll be a tough test.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
