Livingston-born world champion Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright has set up a repeat of last year’s final as he continues his bid for a second straight World Matchplay title. The 52-year-old is set to take on Dimitri Van Den Bergh in the quarter-finals tomorrow (Thursday).

Wright defeated the Belgian in the final 12 months ago to lift the trophy for the first time. The current world no.1 was pushed all the way in Tuesday night’s second round clash with Krzysztof Ratajski, needing to win a tie-break to advance to the last eight.Wright appeared to be firmly in control of the contest, leading 7-3, only for the Pole to mount a comeback and eventually draw level at 9-9.The pair traded back and forth to take the match into overtime with Wright finally proving too strong.Speaking to PDC.tv after the epic showdown, he said: “I really enjoyed it.

You need to be in matches like that sometimes to see where you are. That has definitely got me ready for Dimitri now.“Dimitri is playing really well so it should be another tight game.” Don't miss the latest news from the West Lothian Courier.
