Perth pub owners apply to form new rooftop seating area

The national pub chain in charge of the Capital Asset by the River Tay in Perth is seeking permission to make changes to the B-listed building to form a new rooftop area for diners and drinkers.JD Wetherspoons has applied for planning consent and listed building consent to make alterations to the Tay Street pub which would see the proposed new seating area formed at the rear of the former bank.The company is also seeking permission to extend the pub’s kitchen area through the same applications so staff can cater for the increased number of customers the building could accommodate under the proposal.A heritage statement sent to PKC planners explains: “The proposal presented looks to provide an external experience to both customer floors, with a nearly pitched first floor extension, as well as minor updates to the existing ground floor external area.“The main works look to the new first floor garden, which will look to remove elements of the modern pitched roof in order to connect the sizeable outdoor area to provide more opportunities with the existing structure.”The heritage statement, written by Just H Architects, goes on to say of the proposed kitchen extension: “The existing kitchen is already working at capacity and will likely cease to be sufficient with the newly proposed works and the increase in customer area of the pub.“The extension and reformatting of the kitchen will allow for the increase in occupancy on site and will improve the efficiency of said kitchen due to alterations in ease of storage space.The heritage statement concludes: “In summary, the proposed works detailed within this document have been thoroughly considered to ensure that the impact made to the heritage of the property is kept to a minimal
