Perth hammer man ordered to do unpaid work

A man seen waving a claw hammer above his head during a disturbance on a Perth city street has been ordered to carry out community service.Two witnesses spotted Paul Bonar wielding the weapon at the junction of Carnegie Place and Capercaillie Drive early one afternoon last August.One witness said the 49-year-old also appeared to be walking towards another male seen in the street the same afternoon as if to threaten him.“At about one o’clock in the afternoon of the date libelled witnesses were within their home addresses close to the locus,” fiscal depute Matthew Kerr told Perth Sheriff Court.“One witness heard what he perceived to be a disturbance which caused him to look out of the window.“When he did that he saw the accused leave his home address and walk out into the street pulling at his trousers.“The accused then seemed to remove a hammer from his back pocket with his right hand and brandish it above his head.“Another witness overheard the accused shouting at the locus.“He similarly looked out and saw the accused with the black handle of his hammer emerging from his trousers and noticed the accused reaching for it when approaching an unidentified male.“The police were contacted and have quickly traced the accused at his home address.“He was thereafter cautioned and charged and made no reply.”Bonar, of Carnegie Place, Perth, pled guilty to having a claw hammer in a public place without a reasonable excuse or any lawful authority on August 7 last year.He further admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner on the same date by shouting, acting in an aggressive manner and brandishing the hammer over his head towards another man.Sheriff Robert Carr ordered Bonar to complete 135 hours of unpaid work over the next
