The Weeknd has been named the world’s most popular artist in terms of Spotify statistics.That’s according to a new report by Guinness World Records in which the Spotify data of some of the biggest acts in the music industry has been analysed.The number of monthly listeners on the streaming platform is a key metric in Guinness‘ report. Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd has 111.4million monthly listeners.It comes weeks after Tesfaye became the first artist and so far the only act in Spotify history to hit 100million monthly listener milestone [via Billboard].The next artist on the list is Miley Cyrus, who currently tallies 82.4million monthly listeners.

The Weeknd has settled a copyright infringement case relating to his 2018 track ‘Call Out My Name’, it has been reported.The song featured on his first EP ‘My Dear Melancholy’ and saw the star singing over a minimal, melancholy R&B backing.In 2021, Suniel Fox and Henry Strange – who make up the electro duo Epikker – filed a lawsuit against The Weeknd and producers Frank Dukes and Nicolas Jaar, claiming that ‘Call Out My Name’ plagiarised their unreleased song ‘Vibeking’. The pair claimed that his track pulled from their vocal hook and lead guitar part.Now, a new filing in the case states that all parties have reached a settlement.

The Weeknd, Nicolás Jaar, and Frank Dukes are being sued over a copyright infringement claim for the song "Call Out My Name," according to Stereogum. Producers Suniel Fox and Henry Strange, who perform as electro-house duo Epikker, claim the 2018 track is "strikingly and/or substantially similar, if not identical” to their track "Vibeking," created in 2015 and as-yet publically unreleased.

The compilation premiered yesterday (July 6) at a listening party by Ma3azef.Participating artists were asked to submit their versions of an “audio protest”.

Darkside have officially announced their new album ‘Spiral’ after confirming their reunion last year.The duo – comprised of Nicolás Jaar and Dave Harrington – released their self-titled debut EP in 2011, before following it up with their first full-length record ‘Psychic’ (2013). The pair performed their final show the following year, having confirmed their joint project was “coming to an end, for now”.Back in December 2020, however, Darkside shared the news of their comeback – revealing they had “finished” a new album, ‘Spiral’.

In a statement, Darkside said they met in 2018 for the first time in five years for the purpose of making new music, a goal they achieved in December 2019 when they completed ‘Spiral’.‘Spiral’ was mixed by Rashad Becker and mastered by Heba Kadry, and is set for release in Spring 2021 on Matador Records.In 2018 we met for the first time in five years to make new music.

Nicolás Jaar has announced his second new album of the year, this one under his own name. Cenizas, which follows Jaar’s 2016 album Sirens and February’s Against All Logic record 2017 – 2019, is out March 27 via Other People.
