With the recent cold snap, South Lanarkshire's pun-tastic gritters have been out in force spreading some seasonal cheer.

Gritters across South Lanarkshire have been named by local school children and are available to track live.

a competition to come up with puns for their gritter fleet.And one suggestion on Facebook got a lot of backing from the public.When the Hamilton Advertiser reported on the council competition, Barry Martin took to our page with the ‘Mar-grit Ferrier’ suggestion.And so far, he has picked up almost 50 ‘likes’ for his post.However, the council won’t be going for it as the competition is only open to school pupils.Last year’s competition for South Lanarkshire Council’s Roads department saw Gritter Thunberg, Lewis Caploughdi, Salt Disnae, Oh Plougher of Scotland, Nitty McGritty, Gritty McVitie, Snow Coo and Spready Mercury out gritting the roads, supported by Snow Blow Patrol the snow blower.The MP was dumped by the SNP group in Westminster
