EastEnders has been floored with 353 complaints following Ben Mitchell’s harrowing rape scene.It's now become the soap’s second most complained about scene of the decade after it was shown at the end of May.In the build-up to the assault, viewers have watched a friendly relationship develop between Ben and the new Prince Albert manager and bartender Lewis Butler, despite Ben being married to Callum.After a huge row with his husband, the Walford resident decided to drown his sorrows at the pub and meet up with Lewis.Meanwhile, Ben's daughter Lexi arrived at the house forcing Callum to cover where her dad is.They decide to send a selfie of themselves together but Ben was too distracted by Lewis to notice.One thing leads to another and Ben found himself heading upstairs with Lewis.However, after seeing the snap his husband sent, he began to have second thoughts about what he was about to do and tried to leave.Although sex attacker Lewis, played by Aidan O’Callaghan, refused to let him go and raped him in the harrowing scene on the BBC soap.After watching sexual assault unfold, many viewers were moved to tears and have since complained to the soap over the scenes that were shown pre-watershed.Aware of the influx of complaints the BBC has released a statement in response, they said: “EastEnders has been a pre-watershed BBC One staple for over 37 years and has a rich history of dealing with challenging and difficult issues and Ben’s story is one of these.“We have worked closely with organisations and experts in the field to tell this story which we hope will raise awareness of sexual assaults and the issues surrounding them."The statement continued: "We are always mindful of the timeslot in which EastEnders is shown and we

EastEnders fans were left "traumatised" following Ben Mitchell's harrowing sexual assault during Monday (May 23) night's episode.Over recent weeks, the character - played by Max Bowden on the BBC One soap - has been going through a difficult patch with his husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay).After yet another fight with Callum, Ben decided to drown his sorrows and download a dating app where he made contact with the new manager of The Prince Albert and bartender Lewis Butler (Aidan O'Callaghan).Ben and Lewis grew close as they spent an evening together, with Ben opting to go upstairs with Lewis as soon as The Prince Albert closed.
