Former Tory MP Imran Ahmad Khan has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old boy. Khan, 48, was found guilty last month following a trial.

Crispin Blunt, Member of Parliament for Reigate, has called the conviction a "scandal" after the Wakefield MP was expelled from the Conservative Party following his attack on the young boy.Khan was convicted today in response to the sickening assault against the 15-year-old, which happened inside a house in Staffordshire in 2008.After hearing the news, Mr Blunt said he was "utterly appalled" at the outcome and labelled it a "dreadful miscarriage of justice".The court heard how Khan made the boy drink alcohol before he dragged him upstairs and pushed him onto a bed.It was then reported that he asked the victim to watch porn before he carried out the assault, reports The Mirror.The allegation was made to the Conservative Party press office just days before Khan was announced as the MP for Wakefield in West Yorkshire in 2019, but the victim said he wasn't "taken very seriously" and made a complaint to the police.Tory HQ has confirmed in a statement that Khan has been removed "with immediate effect".Speaking about his friend's conviction, Blunt said in a statement: "I am utterly appalled and distraught at the dreadful miscarriage of justice that has befallen my friend and colleague Imran Ahmad Khan, MP for Wakefield since December 2019."His conviction today is nothing short of an international scandal, with dreadful wider implications for millions of LGBT+ Muslims around the world."I sat through some of the trial.
