FX Presidents of Original Programming Nick Grad and Gina Balian have received title bumps and expanded responsibilities in the wake of Eric Schrier’s departure to become president of Disney Television Studios & Business Operations, Disney General Entertainment.

In her new role, she will report to Gina Balian and Nick Grad, co-presidents of original programming at FX. “Chika is an extraordinarily talented creative executive with a proven track record of discovering and nurturing talent and guiding projects to success in an incredibly competitive environment,” said Grad and Balian. “We are honored to add such a gifted creative executive to our development team, building on the strength of the team to continue FX’s tradition of fearless storytelling.”

Mónica Marie Zorrilla FX has ordered the limited series “Retreat,” written by “The OA” creators Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. The mystery series — a twist on the detective trope — follows an amateur sleuth named Darby Hart, as she attempts to solve a murder case at a secluded retreat.

Mónica Marie Zorrilla “A Teacher” creator, writer, director and executive producer Hannah Fidell has signed a first-look deal with FX Productions. Fidell made her feature directorial debut with the independent drama “A Teacher,” which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2013, before adapting it into a limited series for FX on Hulu.“Working with Hannah on ‘A Teacher’ has been incredibly rewarding, creatively and personally, and it’s only the latest example of her ability to excel as a storyteller and producer,” Gina Balian, president of original programming at FX, said in a statement.

Mónica Marie Zorrilla April Shih, contributing writer on several successful FX series including “Dave,” “Mrs. America” and “You’re the Worst,” has signed an overall deal with FX Productions.

FX has ordered a limited series based on Taffy Brodesser-Akner’s New York Times bestselling debut novel Fleishman Is in Trouble. 

Joe Otterson TV ReporterFX has ordered a limited series based on the Taffy Brodesser-Akner novel “Fleishman Is in Trouble.”Brodesser-Akner will serve as the writer and executive producer on the series, with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, and Susannah Grant also executive producing. ABC Signature is the studio, with Timberman-Beverly currently under an overall deal at the studio.
