Garry’s Mod, a popular and long-running physics sandbox, has announced it will be taking down “certain Nintendo related workshop items” following requests from Nintendo itself.The developer released a statement on the Garry’s Mod Steam page, reading: “Some of you may have noticed that certain Nintendo related workshop items have recently been taken down. This is not a mistake, the takedowns came from Nintendo.“Honestly, this is fair enough”, the statement continues.

Nintendo hacker Gary Bowser has denied involvement with a newly revealed Nintendo Switch flash cart.Bowser was released from prison last year after receiving sentencing for being part of a group known as Team-Xecuter that was creating devices that allowed users to play illegally obtained ROMs on consoles such as Nintendo Switch and 3DS. He still has to pay £8million ($10million) in court-ordered damages to Nintendo, however.The flashcart, named MIG-Switch, was announced last month and is claimed to allow owners to play illegally obtained ROMs.

Todd Spangler NY Digital EditorA leader of a notorious video-game piracy crime ring — which sold hacking software and devices to download stolen games to consoles including the Nintendo Switch — was sentenced to 40 months in federal prison.A judge in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington handed down the prison sentence Thursday to Gary Bowser, 52, one of the leaders of the “Team Xecuter” criminal enterprise.The feds say Bowser was the public face of the piracy group, estimated to have caused more than $65 million in losses to game companies.

Nintendo devices.In court documents spotted by Eurogamer, the US government has recommended that Bowser – who pled guilty to two charges in 2021 – should be imprisoned for five years, with a further 3 years of supervised release.This is due to “the nature and circumstances of the offense, the history and characteristics of the defendant, and the need for the sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offense,” as well as “to afford adequate deterrence to criminal conduct.”On the other hand, Bowser’s defence argued that he is “the least culpable and only apprehended defendant from this indictment,” leaving Bowser to “take the full brunt of the government’s argument that the court must ‘send a message’ of general deterrence by imposing a lengthy term.”The defence also added that Bowser has already “served a significant sentence by spending 16 months in pretrial detention under harsh conditions”, and requested a 19-month sentence instead of the US government’s 60-month recommendation.Outside of jail time, Bowser faces paying to significant fines in regards to the case. After Bowser pleaded guilty in November he offered Nintendo £3.2million ($4.5million) in damages, though in December 2021 it was confirmed that he would pay the company £7.5million ($10million).Bowser is being charged with Trafficking in Circumvention Devices, and Conspiracy to Circumvent Technological Measures and to Traffic in Circumvention Devices, after he pled guilty to both in return for a further nine charges being dropped.
