WWE icon who fought Hulk Hogan became addicted to drugs before tragic hotel room death
wrestlers who died way before their time should have been up.From Eddie Guerrero to Brodie Lee, their lives were way too short but their impact in the ring was great. But one of those who doesn't get spoken about nearly enough is Curt Hennig.Known to many of those who were fans of wrestling from around the start of the 1990s to the beginning of the millennium, Mr Perfect, as he was labelled, was the epitome of the perfect wrestler. He had blonde curly hair, muscles in places you wouldn't think possible, and his in-ring ability was just that – absolutely perfect. But behind the facade, he battled injuries, drug addiction and personal demons which ultimately took his life.Trained by his father Larry “The Axe” Hennig and the legendary Verne Gange, Curt made his in-ring debut in 1980 for the American Wrestling Association (AWA) with the moniker “Cool Curt Hennig”.It didn't take long for him to join the World Wrestling Federation – known as the WWE today – when he debuted in 1981, scoring a victory over Johnny Rodz.He went on to battle some of the most iconic names in the business, from “Playboy” Buddy Rose to Greg Valentine, and quickly established himself as a true rising star of the industry. His first stay in the WWF didn't last long, with a stint following in Pacific Northwest Wrestling, where he teamed with his dad to win the NWA Pacific Northwest Tag Team Championships. He returned to the AWA in 1983 – where he would stay for five more years before rejoining the WWF in around 1988.
