A loyal dog helped save his 81-year-old owner when he refused to leave the man's side after he fell into a freezing canal.

dog.Gregor Angus, 39, was walking with his son Lucas, aged four, along the Union Canal in Linlithgow, West Lothian on January 31.They recognised dog-walker Brian Watson, 81, who was out for a walk with his black Labrador, named Hugo, just before 5pm.As they circled back on themselves, Gregor noticed the black Lab was sitting by himself by the side of the water near Friars Brae Bridge.When he looked closer, senior business development manager Gregor was shocked to see the pensioner lying face-down in water and appearing to be lifeless.Dad-of-two Gregor said: "When we were walking back, I spotted his dog sitting by itself which I thought was a bit strange."When we got closer, I noticed what turned out to be Brian lying in the water."He was

plunged into a freezing canal.Gregor Angus was out walking in Linlithgow, West Lothian, with his young son when they came across a lone dog without its owner on January 31.The dad approached the pooch but soon spotted 81-year-old Brian Watson floating in the bitterly cold waterway.The 39-year-old jumped in and managed to drag the stricken pensioner to safety while shouting for help.His young son Lucas held onto the dog, named Hugo, while several passersby stopped to hand over their jackets while an ambulance was called.The pensioner’s daughter, Dawn Watson, said that without Gregor her dad “wouldn’t be here today”.She said: "Thank you isn't enough but no words are enough for our hero who jumped in and saved my dad from drowning at the
