Tina Turner Gets the Barbie Treatment in Honor of ‘What’s Love Got to Do With It’ 40th Anniversary
Anna Tingley If you purchase an independently reviewed product or service through a link on our website, Variety may receive an affiliate commission. Another rock star gets the Barbie treatment with a new Tina Turner doll from Mattel, announced today. The Tina Turner Barbie Doll, part of the toy company’s Music Series, features the Grammy-winning and chart-topping singer in the outfit she wore in the iconic music video for “What’s Love Got to Do With It,” pegged to the song’s 40th anniversary. She wears a black mini dress, a denim jacket, sheer black tights and black heels. The most notable part of the doll is Mini Tina’s signature volumized and textured hair, a style she often rocked throughout the ’80s as she rebranded herself as a solo act. “We used a lot of screen grabs to see the hair at all angles,” designer Bill Greening said in a statement. “Lots of teasing and hairspray was involved!” The track, which became the singer’s first and only No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart when it was released in 1984, was also the title of the 1993 biopic about Turner starring Angela Bassett. She took home three awards for the song at the 1985 Grammy Awards. “Barbie is proud to honor the unmatched career of the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n Roll’ with a @TinaTurner Barbie doll,” Mattel wrote on Instagram. “Collectors and music fans alike can celebrate the music icon with the new Signature #Barbie doll.” Mini Tina joins other doll-sized artists in the Music Series, such as David Bowie and Gloria Estefan. Urban legend of role Adolf Hitler played in the invention of blow-up sex dolls
Second World War is the story that Adolf Hitler invented the sex doll. The Nazi dictator ordered the manufacture of a doll based on the image of glamorous Hungarian movie star Käthe von Nagy, so the rumour has it, in order to prevent his troops from being signed off sick with venereal disease.Supposedly German troops were so afraid of being captured with the Nazi sex doll in their possession that there was very little uptake when they were offered.READ MORE: Man in relationship with synthetic doll boasts 'I don't give a f*** what people think'The near-total destruction of Dresden’s industrial centre by the RAF was the final nail in the coffin for the project, according to author Graeme Donald who included the unlikely tale in his book, Mussolini's Barber.Sadly the story may be too good to be true. There’s very little hard evidence that the plan - code-named The Borghild Project - actually existed. After the conquest of France in 1940, Hitler’s henchman Henrich Himmler, leader of the feared SS, reportedly said: “The greatest danger in Paris is the widespread and uncontrolled presence of whores, picking up clients in bars, dance halls, and other places.“It is our duty to prevent soldiers from risking their health just for the sake of a quick adventure.”As a result, says Donald, Himmler got the sign-off from The Fuhrer to order 50 sex dolls - designed under the supervision of Adam Zimmerman at the German Hygiene Museum - which were trialled at military camps in occupied Jersey.Donald came across the story while researching a book about the history of the Barbie Doll.

Emmy Rossum Transforms Into Billboard Figure Angelyne for New Release Date Teaser
two years after the first trailer was released. «You really want to know my story? The story of my life?» Angelyne, played by Emmy Rossum in a bright blond wig and cleavage-baring pink dress, asks in the clip. «The truth is -- I’m something that you have to experience.»In a press release, the long-awaited show was described as a limited series about «fame, identity, survival, billboards, Corvettes, lingerie, men, women, women teasing men, men obsessed with women, West Hollywood, crystals, UFOs, and most importantly of all, the self-proclaimed Rorschach test in pink, glow-in-the-dark queen of the universe, Angelyne.» ' Alex Karpovsky, ' Lukas Gage, This Is Us' Michael Angarano and 's Charlie Rowe are some of the other stars rounding out the series' cast. “As a society broadening our understanding of identity, this story plays with large questions," Rossum, who also serves as an executive producer, said in a statement. «Are we defined by the historical facts of our life? Or can we define ourselves? To self-actualize, to embrace whoever we are on the inside and live whatever truth feels most accurate. When everyone’s experience of reality and truth is personal, can there ever be one true story? I've spent the better part of 4 years thinking, living, and breathing this project.
