The person who died after being hit by a HGV tanker on the M56 was a 50-year-old man, police have said. Officers confirmed he was from Ellesmere Port.
The man's next of kin has been informed is being supported by specialist officers. Emergency services were called to the smash - between junction 14, for Helsby, and junction 12, for Runcorn - at around 5.30am on Monday (May 18).
The tanker was travelling towards Runcorn the incident happened. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police sealed off a stretch of the motorway for several hours.
