Pep Guardiola said that Manchester United’s struggles since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson serve as a warning to Manchester City.
The Reds have failed to win the Premier League in the eight years since their most successful manager retired, and are trailing in the wake of the Blues.
That was underlined as City ran riot in the second half to chalk up a 4-1 win in the derby, opening a six-point lead over Liverpool at the top of the table and dumping the Reds out of the top four.
Ferguson’s retirement was followed three years later by Guardiola’s transformation of City from contenders and occasional title winners into serial champions.
