Pep Guardiola refused to say whether Joao Cancelo would be part of Manchester City this season after the defender was absent for the Community Shield.
Having spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich after a serious falling out with the manager, Cancelo returned to the Etihad in the summer and played a part in their pre-season matches in Japan and Korea.
However, while new signing Josko Gvardiol travelled to London with the squad to take on Arsenal despite not playing a part in the game, there was no sign of Cancelo.
With no injury issue preventing the Portugal defender from being at Wembley, Guardiola was asked afterwards if the full-back was in his plans for the long term but instead stuck to commenting on the day. "He had to go home with the family and was not here," the coach said.
