Octopus Energy will be providing an extra 20,000 free electric blankets to its most vulnerable customers this winter after announcing an extension to the scheme.

The energy giant has distributed over 60,000 free electric blankets - supplied by Dreamland - since the scheme first launched in January 2022.

Energy bills are set to rise by 10 per cent from October 1 after Ofgem confirmed that millions of people on the standard tariff will see the annual cost rise by £149 from £1,568 to £1,717.

This means for every £100 of energy households currently pay for, an extra £10 will be added. Octopus customers with an electric blanket saw their gas bills fall by 20 per cent on average in previous winters, while only increasing their electricity usage by 0.2 per cent - adding up to an average saving of £150 across the three months.
