A retired woman was coerced into handing £2,000 to a complete stranger on her doorstep, under the impression that she was assisting assisting with a high-profile fraud investigation on counterfeit bank notes.
Mary White, 73, from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire received a phone call from a man purporting to an officer from Paddington police station in London last month.
He explained that a man who claimed to be her grandson - and had several of her bank cards - was in custody. "It happened on the 20th January 2021 at about 10am," Mary, who lives in Bedfordshire, said.
