PC Andrew Harper's mum has described the gut-wrenching moment she was awoken at 4.45am to be told her son was dead. Deborah Adlam says she has suffered 'endless' pain since her son was 'ripped from our family while we slept'.
PC Harper died after he was dragged along for more than a mile by a car filled with quad bike thieves, who he had tried to intercept.
The 28-year-old had only been married for four weeks when he was killed in Berkshire in August last year. His killers Henry Long, 19, Jessie Cole and Albert Bowers, both 18, were jailed for a total of 42 years today.
All three were cleared of murder by a jury at the Old Bailey last week, prompting PC Harper's widow to call for a retrial - something which is very unlikely.
