Paula Lane has come a long way since she played Kylie Platt in Corrie – about 200 miles, in fact. The actress has swapped the cobbles for BBC drama Call the Midwife, set in London.
And as Paula makes her triumphant telly return tonight – five years after her soap character was killed off – viewers will see that the gobby Northern lass who ran riot in Weatherfield is no more.
Instead, she has been replaced by a mild-mannered 1960s mum called Vera, who has a proper East End accent.
