Paul O'Grady funeral live as TV star laid to rest in Kent with guard of honour by Battersea dogs

A guard of honour by animals loved so dearly by Paul O'Grady from Battersea Cat and Dogs Home will take place before the much loved comedian's funeral today (Thursday, April 20).

The much-loved star died “unexpectedly but peacefully” at his home on March 28 at the age of 67.A private service will also feature an appearance from the Salvation Army Band.Paul became an ambassador for Battersea in 2012 and his close connection to the charity was well known by fans after he re-homed five dogs while he was filming his popular ITV show Paul O'Grady: For the Love of Dogs.

Paul's heartbroken husband Andre Portasio confirmed the tragic loss in a statement following his death on March 28. "We ask, at this difficult time, that whilst you celebrate his life you also respect our privacy as we come to terms with this loss."Today's procession leading to the private service is expected to carry O'Grady's coffin through his home town of Aldington in Kent, with local fans expected to gather along the streets to pay their respects and mourn the TV personality after Andre invited fans to pay their respects to his late husband.In the wake of his passing, Andre said: "I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude for the overwhelming outpouring of support and love I have received since the passing of our beloved Paul O'Grady."Your kind messages, beautiful flowers, and thoughtful texts of condolences have brought me comfort and solace during this difficult time."I'm incredibly grateful for the support and love I have received from our community, and we want to thank each and every one of you for your kindness and generosity."As a mark of respect and as Paul would have wanted, we will be holding a private funeral on Thursday, 20th
