Paul Nicholls was the 90s hearth-throb who had everyone swooning - but his life quickly spun out of control. The popular actor rose to fame as Joe Wicks on EastEnders and was highly praised for his portrayal of schizophrenia.
But Paul, who was just 16 when he set foot in Albert Square in 1996, struggled with his newfound celebrity status and later confessed he couldn't handle the attention.
While on his way to a "total breakdown" amid drink and drug addiction, the actor left the soap in 1997 but continued on a downward spiral.
Now 42, Paul has bravely opened up on trying to get his addiction under control and recently revealed he had a relapse last year.
