Paul Giamatti Joins Cast of Upcoming New 'Star Trek: Starflight Academy' Series, Will Play Show's First Villain

Paul Giamatti is joining the Star Trek universe! It was just announced on Tuesday (June 11) that the 57-year-old actor has been cast in a key, recurring role on the upcoming series Star Trek: Starflight Academy, Variety reveals.

The latest Star Trek series was first greenlit in March 2023 and will “follow the adventures of a new class of Starfleet cadets as they come of age in one of the most legendary places in the galaxy.” Keep reading to find out more… Paul will have a recurring guest star as the series’ first season main villain, who reportedly “has a sinister connection to the past of one of the (yet to be cast) cadets.” He is the second actor announced for the series, joining Holly Hunter, who was previously revealed to be playing “the captain and chancellor of the Academy, presiding over both the faculty and a new class of Starfleet cadets as they learn to navigate the galaxy in the 32nd century.” The series is set to “introduce us to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism.

Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they will discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.” Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is set to begin filming in Toronto this summer.
