Although the character origins of Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman were already introduced in Patty Jenkins’s 2017 film, there seems to be even more world-building backstory yet to be uncovered. In a recent conversation with Empire, for their “Big-Screen Issue,” writer-director Patty Jenkins teases a flashback sequence in the upcoming “Wonder Woman 1984,” as well as alludes to the possibility for a spin-off series and/or a sequel for the franchise.

Finally, some good news.

Wonder Woman 1984 was set to release in June 2020. However, due to the Coronavirus outbreak, the Gal Gadot starrer has been postponed to August. While the wait has been extended, it hasn't stopped Patty Jenkins from teasing the movie. The director recently spoke to Empire magazine and discussed Kristen Wiig villain Cheetah in the movie. The director explains Barbara turns into Cheetah due to Diana. The filmmaker explains Cheetah turns dark due to her insecurity of not being as good as Diana.

I'm trying to make myself not think about that because every movie has to be taken on its own but there's definitely final things for me that I haven't got to explore with Wonder Woman that we'll have to see if we can go and explore.' Patty Jenkins could’ve been the director of Thor: The Dark World, but she decided it wasn’t for her.

The Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins stepped back from directing the Marvel Cinematic Universal film when the script offered to her was not as per her expectations. The director reportedly said that she did not wish to disappoint the fans of MCU and audience members to such an extent where they feel the film missed its mark because of her. Patty Jenkins states that fear was that the fans would think why a woman directed the film and missed including all the crucial elements. The MCU film Thor Dark World then fell into the lap of director Alan Taylor. The film performed well at the box office but sadly was considered one of the worst MCU flicks to date. The reviews of the film were not something that is expected from a Marvel flick.
