Kevin Rutkiewicz says talks aimed at keeping Chris Erskine at East Kilbride broke down because the timing wasn’t right.Rutkiewicz says he couldn’t offer the 35-year-old a contract based on previous heights, after the winger took a break last season to pursue a career in the fire service. The Kilby gaffer says there is no doubting the former Partick Thistle hero’s ability, but they couldn’t agree on terms.Rutkiewicz said: “I’m disappointed that Chris has left.“It was something we just couldn’t quite come to agreement on, with the structure of the deal.“The finances were there, Chris’ commitment was there, but the timing of everything just didn’t suit.“As a manager I can’t possibly give someone a contract on what they were, or potentially what they could be.“Chris, unfortunately, had started his new job, was finding it difficult to get into training and the games and stuff, so it was just the timing.“I’ve got no doubts about ‘Squiddy’s’ ability – we had a long conversation about that.“Chris is looking for new things now and a deal that suits his needs.“I’m disappointed that we couldn’t do that here, but that’s football and we just need to take that on the chin.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
