Airdrie super-sub Gabby McGill took just three minutes to draw his side level against Partick Thistle, and says he knew they would go on to bag their first Championship win.Returning from injury, McGill climbed off the bench in 59 minutes to replace Josh O’Connor and in 62 minutes smashed the ball into the net, pouncing on the rebound after Cammy Ballantyne’s fierce shot had been well blocked by Jags keeper David Mitchell.

Airdrie went on to win the game 2-1, with Craig Watson’s cross headed in by Calum Gallagher in 71 minutes, cancelling out James Lyon’s 30th-minute opener.

You don’t want to come on when you’re 1-0 down, but in my head I just thought ‘I have an opportunity to come on here, change the game and try to get back into the team.“I thought Josh O’Connor and Lewis McGregor had done really well since I’ve been injured, so I saw it as an opportunity to get back in the team.“It wasn’t the best of goals, but I’ll take anything that goes in, 100 per cent.”McGill reckons New Broomfield
