The devastated parents of a Scots girl who died after falling ill on holiday have paid tribute to their "happy" and "bubbly" daughter.Gemma Caffrey, 12, passed away on October 25, 2021, after suffering from intense headaches while on a family trip with her parents to Haggerston Castle in Northumberland.
In the days prior to her death, the schoolgirl, from Hamilton, had been waking in the night unwell.She was admitted to the Great North Children's Hospital in Newcastle, but sadly lost her life after two weeks in the unit.
An inquest into her death at Newcastle Coroner's Court concluded that she died "due to the effects of Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (CVST)", which prevents blood from draining out of the brain.
Assistant Coroner Karen Dilks added the "underlying cause of which is unascertained."Paying tribute to their daughter, Gemma's parents, Alison and Graeme, said: "Gemma was happy, bubbly and always smiling.
